Muggsy Bogues

Tyrone Muggsy Bogues is recognized as the shortest player to compete in the National Basketball Association, standing at 5 feet 3 inches. Bogues played point guard for four teams during his 14-season NBA career. He attended Dunbar High School, where his team won 59 consecutive games and was ranked as the top high school team in the nation during his junior and senior years. At Wake Forest University, Bogues finished as the ACC career leader in steals and assists, and Wake Forest retired his number shortly after his departure from the program.

Bogues was selected twelfth overall in the NBA draft by the Washington Bullets, joining a draft class that included David Robinson, Reggie Miller, Scottie Pippen, and Kevin Johnson. He later joined the Charlotte Hornets in the expansion draft, where he spent ten seasons and became closely associated with the franchise. Bogues also played for the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors. During his tenure in Charlotte, the Hornets transitioned from mediocrity to playoff contention, and Bogues became a popular figure among basketball fans. In one season, he led the NBA in assist-to-turnover ratio and recorded a double-double average, finishing second in assists per game.

Bogues was known for his defensive skills, recording 39 blocked shots in his NBA career, including one against Patrick Ewing. He retired as the 16th all-time leader in assists in NBA history and was known for his ball-handling skills and 44-inch vertical leap. After his playing career, Bogues served as head coach of the Charlotte Sting in the WNBA.

Off the court, Bogues has focused on community engagement and motivational speaking. He authored the autobiography "Muggsy: My Life from a Kid in the Projects to the Godfather of Small Ball," which explores his basketball career and experiences competing against players such as Michael Jordan and John Stockton. Through the Muggsy Bogues Family Foundation, he has supported underserved youth and families by addressing food security, education, and workforce development. Bogues also serves as an ambassador for the NBA and as a community ambassador for the Charlotte Hornets.
