Monica Garrison

Monica Garrison is the founder and executive director of Black Girls Do Bike, a nonprofit organization focused on increasing the representation and participation of Black women in cycling. Originally working as a photographer and videographer, Garrison returned to cycling as an adult and, after observing the underrepresentation of women of color in the cycling community, launched Black Girls Do Bike as a Facebook group. The organization has since grown to include more than 100 chapters across the United States and internationally, with a membership exceeding 30,000 riders and a network of local leaders who organize rides, workshops, and community events.

Under Garrison’s leadership, Black Girls Do Bike has become a significant presence in the cycling industry, advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through community engagement, mentorship, and advocacy. The group’s mission is to provide a supportive environment for women and girls to experience cycling, build confidence, and influence local biking initiatives. Black Girls Do Bike has established partnerships with major brands such as Trek and REI, and its story has been featured in national media, cycling magazines, and conferences, highlighting Garrison’s role as a public speaker and advocate for diversity in outdoor recreation.

Garrison’s work has contributed to a movement that promotes physical health, challenges stereotypes, and expands the narrative of who participates in cycling. Her efforts have been recognized for grassroots growth, inclusivity, and the measurable impact on communities nationwide. As a speaker, Garrison shares her expertise in cycling advocacy, encouraging audiences to view cycling as a means of empowerment and social change.
