Mohnish Pabrai

Mohnish Pabrai is an Indian‑American investor, entrepreneur, author, and philanthropist best known for his value‑oriented approach to investing, inspired by the principles of Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger. Born in Mumbai, India, in 1964, Pabrai moved to the United States to pursue higher education and began his professional career with Tellabs from 1986 to 1991, working in high‑speed data networking and international sales before entering the world of entrepreneurship. In 1991, he founded TransTech, Inc., an IT consulting and systems integration firm he built from a start‑up funded with his own savings and credit card debt into a business with more than $20 million in revenue, ultimately selling it in 2000.

In 1999, Pabrai launched Pabrai Investment Funds, a family of hedge funds modeled after Buffett’s early partnerships, where he serves as managing partner. He also serves as CEO of Dhandho Funds and portfolio manager of the Pabrai Wagons Fund, which together manage nearly $1 billion in private partnership and mutual fund (now ETF) assets as of late 2025. His investing philosophy emphasizes patience, concentrated holdings, and disciplined value selection, and has been profiled in financial media. He is the author of two books on investing: “The Dhandho Investor: The Low‑Risk Value Method to High Returns” and “Mosaic: Perspectives on Investing,” both of which have been translated into multiple languages.

Beyond finance, Pabrai is the founder and chairman of The Dakshana Foundation, a U.S. public charity dedicated to alleviating poverty through education by helping economically disadvantaged Indian students gain admission to top engineering and medical universities. His work with Dakshana has helped thousands of scholars pursue academic and professional success. Pabrai continues to manage his investment funds, speak at industry events, and contribute to discussions on value investing and capital allocation in the global financial community.
