Mohamed Dhaouafi is the founder and CEO of Cure Bionics, a MedTech and robotics company specializing in advanced bionic prosthetics and gamified rehabilitation solutions. Dhaouafi's journey into entrepreneurship began during his engineering studies in Tunisia, where he learned of a young girl born without arms whose family could not afford prosthetic devices. This experience motivated Dhaouafi to focus on making advanced prosthetics accessible to underserved populations. During his market research, he visited a local hospital and met a child who had lost a hand and a leg due to an electric shock, which led him to officially launch Cure Bionics.
Cure Bionics develops 3D-printed, muscle-controlled, and customizable bionic arms designed for below-elbow amputee adults and children aged eight and above. The prosthetics are constructed from ecological materials and feature adjustable sockets to accommodate growth in children. They are controlled by muscle signals, eliminating the need for surgical intervention, and are customizable with removable covers that can be assembled without assistance from engineers or doctors. The bionic limbs are priced at approximately $2,500, offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional prosthetic options. In addition to hardware, Cure Bionics provides a gamified virtual reality therapeutic solution that enables amputees to conduct therapy at home, with doctors able to monitor progress remotely.
Dhaouafi holds an engineering degree in electronics from Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Sousse, a master's degree in management of NGOs from Tunis Business School, and a degree in leadership from Montana State University. Before founding Cure Bionics, Dhaouafi co-founded and managed Zeta Hub, the first private student incubator and capacity-building center in Sousse. His career has been marked by a focus on social entrepreneurship and community development.
Dhaouafi has been recognized by Forbes Middle East 30 Under 30, MIT Technology Review 35 Under 35 Innovator, TIME Next Generation Leader, MB100 by EY, and as an Obama Foundation Africa Leader. He was also named one of eight global innovators at the United Nations Solutions Summit and was a runner-up in the Cisco Global Problem Solver Challenge. Dhaouafi advocates for viewing disabilities as opportunities and supports the creation of inclusive communities. His background positions him as a thought leader in accessible technology, social entrepreneurship, disability inclusion, and the future of healthcare in emerging markets.
