Mina Al-Oraibi

Mina Al-Oraibi is currently the Editor-in-Chief of The National, a regional news outlet based in Abu Dhabi. With over two decades of experience, Al-Oraibi has covered a wide range of affairs from the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. Prior to her current position, she served as the Assistant Editor-in-Chief of Asharq Alawsat, an international Arab-language daily newspaper, from 2011 to 2015. During this period, she conducted high-profile interviews with notable figures such as Barham Salih, former Iraqi President, John Kerry, US Climate Envoy, Kristalina Georgieva, IMF Managing Director, and Filippo Grandi, UNHCR High Commissioner.

Al-Oraibi's experience extends beyond journalism to the field of policy making. She was a Senior Fellow at the Institute for State Effectiveness (ISE) where she focused on crafting policy recommendations for improved governance in the Arab world, with a particular attention to Iraq and Syria. This role allowed her to dive deeper into the intricacies of governance, further enhancing her insights into the workings of the region. In addition to her work with ISE, Al-Oraibi is an adviser to the Global Dignity Day Movement, a global initiative that aims to empower individuals and communities with the principle of dignity.

Her expertise and contributions have not gone unnoticed; in 2009, the World Economic Forum named Al-Oraibi a Young Global Leader. She is currently a member of the World Economic Forum’s International Media Council. Furthermore, she is a trustee of the American University in Iraq - Sulaimani, actively contributing to the advancement of higher education in the region. These roles demonstrate Al-Oraibi's dedication to fostering dialogue and understanding on a global scale, while her journalistic and advisory roles underline her deep understanding of the political and social dynamics of the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.
