Mimi Alemayehou

Mimi Alemayehou has been a leader in development finance and infrastructure investment in the public and private sectors for more than 30 years. She is a Senior Advisor at Three Cairns Group, a mission-driven investment and philanthropic firm. An expert in investing in the African continent, she is also a managing partner at Semai Ventures, a consulting firm for African businesses, and Board Director and Chair of the Audit Committee for the ONE Campaign. In recognition of her work, Forbes named Alemayehou to their "50 Over 50" list in 2023.

Alemayehou came to Three Cairns from Mastercard, where she was a leader in the division for public-private partnerships and created and ran social impact initiatives and financial inclusion programs. Earlier, as Managing Director of the Black Rhino Group and Chair of Blackstone Africa Infrastructure LP, she advanced major energy and infrastructure projects across Africa.

Alemayehou's early career includes experience at a wide range of organizations, including the World Health Organization, the International Executive Service Corps, and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation. She has held multiple board positions for companies and organizations focused on the climate crisis, from the U.S. African Development Foundation to Climate Real Impact Solutions to The Energy for Growth Hub, a research and advocacy network working to end energy poverty.

Her government service includes an appointment as Executive Vice President of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, the U.S. government’s development finance agency, and as the U.S. representative on the Board of the African Development Bank.

Alemayehou earned her BA at West Texas A&M University and a Master of International Business and International Law and Development at Tufts University.
