Mikey Shulman

Mikey Shulman is the co-founder and CEO of Suno, a leading company in artificial intelligence music technology. Shulman holds a Bachelor of Science in applied physics and applied mathematics from Columbia University and a doctorate in physics from Harvard University. His academic background provided a technical foundation for addressing complex challenges in AI-driven music creation. Prior to founding Suno, Shulman worked as a physicist and researcher, focusing on the development of advanced AI systems. He later became the first machine learning engineer and head of machine learning at Kensho Technologies, which was acquired by S&P Global for more than $500 million. Shulman has also served as a lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management, teaching natural language processing for finance.

Shulman, along with Martin Camacho, Georg Kucsko, and Keenan Freyberg, began developing an AI platform designed to enable users to create music using only a text prompt. The founders previously collaborated at Kensho, where they specialized in AI for financial services and worked on projects involving text, natural language processing, and audio data, including automating earnings call transcription. This experience with audio technology inspired the creation of Suno. The company focuses on generative audio technology, allowing users to produce music with AI by modeling raw sound waves and prioritizing full-song generation.

Under Shulman's leadership, Suno has expanded its user base, with more than 100 million people creating music on the platform and over 2 million paid subscribers. The platform generates 7 million songs daily, with 90 percent of daily users actively creating content. Suno has secured significant investment, raising $400 million in late-stage funding at a $5.4 billion valuation.

Suno has faced legal challenges, including a copyright infringement lawsuit from Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, and Sony Music Entertainment. Warner Music Group later settled and entered into a licensing partnership with Suno, allowing artists to opt in for the use of their names, images, likenesses, voices, and compositions in AI-generated music. Shulman has contributed to the public discourse on AI and music, appearing on platforms such as the Sequoia Capital podcast, the 20VC podcast, and Billboard's "On the Record." He has discussed Suno's adoption by a diverse range of users and emphasized the company's mission to make music creation accessible and valuable to a global audience.
