Mike Joy

Mike Joy is a prominent figure in American motorsports broadcasting, recognized for his extensive experience and expertise in NASCAR coverage. Joy brings decades of motorsports knowledge to his role as lead race announcer for FOX NASCAR, where he has served for more than two decades alongside analysts Clint Bowyer and Kevin Harvick. His broadcasting career began as a public address announcer at Riverside Park Speedway in Agawam, Massachusetts, while attending the University of Hartford and later Emerson College. From these early days at a local track, Joy developed into a defining voice of NASCAR on national television.

Joy advanced through the broadcasting ranks with roles including co-anchor, general manager, and executive producer of the Motor Racing Network. He served as the lead broadcaster for ESPN's first live NASCAR telecast and contributed to CBS Sports, where he covered the Olympic Winter Games, NCAA championship events in soccer, swimming and diving, track and field, gymnastics, and lacrosse, as well as serving as a sideline reporter and halftime host for CBS college football. During his 18 years with CBS, Joy called a variety of events, including the Hambletonian, Pro Beach Soccer, and World Cup skiing. This diverse experience across sports broadcasting has contributed to his versatility and authority in motorsports media.

At FOX Sports, Joy's work has solidified his reputation as a leading NASCAR broadcaster. He teamed with Hall of Fame driver Darrell Waltrip and former crew chief Larry McReynolds to form the network's broadcast team, completing 15 years together. Joy has participated in live TV or radio coverage of 47 Daytona 500 races. His on-air presence has accompanied significant moments in NASCAR history, such as Kevin Harvick's first career win as the replacement driver for Dale Earnhardt, narrowly defeating Jeff Gordon in one of the closest finishes in NASCAR history. Outside of NASCAR, Joy is also recognized for his appearances in films including "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," "Logan Lucky," and "Cars 3."

Joy's involvement in motorsports extends beyond broadcasting. He is an accomplished sports car racer, with victories at Lime Rock, Pocono, Watkins Glen, and New Hampshire, and has competed in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. He is also known as the TV host of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and as an on-the-block expert for TV coverage of Barrett-Jackson collector car auctions. His direct participation in racing provides a unique perspective that enhances his motorsports commentary. Joy is a charter member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame Voting Panel and has served as the sole media representative on the Hall's Nominating Committee.

Throughout his career, Joy has received numerous honors, including the Henry T. McLemore Motorsports Journalism Award and the North Carolina Motorsports Association Jim Hunter Memorial Media Award. As a former vice president of the National Motorsport Press Association, he joined Chris Economaki as one of the first racing journalists to receive major recognition in radio, television, and print. Joy was also named recipient of the National Motorsports Press Association's Myers Brothers Award, an honor recognizing outstanding contributions to stock car racing. With a career spanning more than five decades, Joy continues to set the standard in motorsports broadcasting and journalism.
