Mike Jones

Mike Jones is an American rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur best known for helping bring Houston’s Southern hip-hop sound into the mainstream during the mid-2000s. Born Michael Allen Jones on November 18, 1981, in Houston, Texas, he rose to prominence through his affiliation with the Swishahouse record label and his distinctive approach to self-promotion and branding.

Jones began pursuing music seriously in the early 2000s after holding various jobs and launching his own independent label, Ice Age Entertainment. He gained national attention with the 2004 breakout single Still Tippin', which featured fellow Houston rappers Slim Thug and Paul Wall. The song became a defining anthem of Houston’s car and street culture and helped introduce Jones to a wider audience.

In 2005, Jones released his debut studio album, Who Is Mike Jones?, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and achieved platinum certification. The album included the hit singles “Still Tippin’” and “Back Then,” both of which helped establish Jones as a leading voice in Southern hip-hop. He became widely recognized for his signature catchphrase, “Who? Mike Jones!” as well as his unconventional marketing tactic of publicly sharing his personal phone number to connect directly with fans.
