Mike Gundy Biography
Mike Gundy, the former head coach of Oklahoma State from 2005 to 2025, has left an indelible mark on the program. Under his guidance, he led the team to a Big 12 Conference title in 2011, the same year he was bestowed with the Paul "Bear" Bryant Award and the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award. His leadership skills also translated into Oklahoma State winning 12 bowl games, and his teams achieving sixteen consecutive bowl seasons, a program record. Moreover, Gundy was honored as the Big 12 Coach of the Year three times during his tenure.
Apart from his coaching accolades, Gundy's presence was felt off the field as well. His spirited defense of a player in a viral video in 2007, with his now-famous quote "Come after me! I'm a man! I'm forty!" made headlines. His contribution to Oklahoma State and to the sport was recognized with his induction into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 2021.
Despite Gundy's exit from the program, his legacy, including his distinctive "million-dollar mullet," remains a prominent part of Oklahoma State's history. Gundy's 170 wins make him the winningest coach in Oklahoma State history, and he led the team to three major bowl appearances, including the 2016 "Sugar Bowl."
