Mike Evans

Mike Evans is the visionary co-founder of Grubhub, one of the most influential online food-ordering platforms in the United States. In 2004, Evans began building the first version of Grubhub from his Chicago apartment, initially just to make ordering pizza easier. What started as a side project grew into a billion-dollar company, thanks to his leadership through funding rounds, acquisitions, and ultimately a successful IPO in 2014.

Originally from northwest Georgia, Evans holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT. His journey with Grubhub is chronicled in his memoir, Hangry: A Startup Journey, where he reflects not only on the business milestones but also on the personal challenges and growth he experienced along the way.

After Grubhub went public, Evans stepped away and embarked on a cross-country bicycle ride from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The ride marked a turning point—a chance for reflection after 12 intense years as a founder and executive.

In 2017, he returned to entrepreneurship with the launch of Fixer, a home repair company focused on providing full-time, W-2 employment and trade training for workers. Fixer was built in direct contrast to gig-economy models, reflecting Evans’ deep belief in fair labor practices and the importance of rebuilding skilled trades in America.

Today, Evans continues to be a voice for purpose-driven entrepreneurship. He is a speaker, author, and advocate for ethical leadership, social impact, and the importance of building companies that treat people with dignity. He lives in Chicago, where he continues to explore what it means to build businesses that matter.
