Mike Brown

Mike Brown is a coach in the National Basketball Association (NBA) whose career has spanned roles as both assistant and head coach. Brown began his NBA coaching career as an assistant with the Washington Wizards, San Antonio Spurs, and Indiana Pacers. He was part of the coaching staff for the San Antonio Spurs team that won the NBA title, and later contributed to the Golden State Warriors' championships as an assistant coach.

Brown has achieved a .599 winning percentage as a head coach across three teams and has won championships as an assistant under head coaches Gregg Popovich and Steve Kerr. As head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Brown led the team to the NBA Finals and, two seasons later, guided the Cavaliers to a franchise-record 66 wins and a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals, earning his first Coach of the Year Award.

Brown later joined the Sacramento Kings after winning three championships as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors. In Sacramento, he led a turnaround that saw the Kings improve from 31 wins or fewer in each of the previous three seasons to a 48-34 record, reaching the NBA playoffs for the first time in 17 years and earning the first unanimous Coach of the Year honors in NBA history.

Brown's tenure with the Kings ended abruptly when the team dismissed him, a decision that drew widespread attention across the league. He was subsequently hired by the New York Knicks as head coach. In his first season at Madison Square Garden, Brown led the Knicks to a 53-29 record, setting a franchise record for wins by a first-year head coach.

Brown guided the New York Knicks to a 94-90 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, clinching the series 4-1 and delivering the franchise its first NBA championship since 1973. Throughout the postseason, Brown maintained composure and focus, steering the Knicks through challenging moments and leading them on a run in which they won 15 of 16 games, one of the most dominant stretches in NBA history.

Brown is a five-time NBA champion coach, with four rings as an assistant and one as head coach of the Knicks. He joins Red Holzman as the only coaches to win titles with the Knicks. Brown's career, marked by multiple firings, two Coach of the Year Awards, and a championship with the Knicks, positions him as a prominent voice on leadership, resilience, and team building in professional basketball.
