Mika Eddy

Mika Eddy is a healthcare entrepreneur focused on improving outcomes for women during and after pregnancy. Eddy earned a Bachelor of Arts in human biology and a Master of Science in management from Stanford University. She spent a year in China as a Fulbright Scholar, working with Stanford's Rural Action Program to evaluate quality of care in rural and urban clinics, and later worked with startups and established companies delivering products in healthcare. Before founding Malama Health, Eddy served as director of clinical product innovation at UnitedHealthcare, where she contributed to achieving cost savings of $200 million through digital health initiatives.

Eddy's path to entrepreneurship was influenced by her own experience with gestational diabetes during her first pregnancy. While working at UnitedHealthcare, she was diagnosed with this temporary hyperglycemia illness, which required her to manage blood glucose levels, use a reimbursed glucometer, conduct multiple daily finger pricks, and track her diet in a paper log. This experience motivated Eddy to pursue solutions that create healthier outcomes for mothers and their babies.

Eddy founded Malama Health out of the Biodesign for Digital Health course at Stanford. The company is named after the Hawaiian word meaning to nurture, take care of, preserve, and protect. As co-founder and CEO, Eddy leads Malama Health, a maternal health company delivering tech-enabled care for high-risk perinatal conditions. Malama Health operates as a care delivery company and coordinated operating platform, connecting community-based doulas, health plans, and clinical systems in a single model. The platform integrates doula networks, clinical oversight, remote monitoring, and data reporting across Medicaid markets. Patient-reported outcomes data from thousands of Malama Health patients show measurable improvements in clinical outcomes, and the company's app has been used by more than 45,000 women across all 50 states.

Malama Health is backed by the Stanford d.school, Y Combinator, Alpine Investors, and others. The company has raised $9.2 million in seed funding led by Acumen America, with participation from Wisdom Ventures, Capital F, and Coyote Ventures. In addition to private investment, the startup received federal and state grants, including a $2.3 million NIH grant. Malama Health has been selected as part of MATTER's 51 Labs cohort focused on preventing maternal mortality in the United States, establishing its role in maternal health innovation.

Eddy is recognized in the women's health and digital health communities. She has moderated panels such as "From Barriers to Breakthroughs: Navigating Women's Health Startup Growth" at Women's Health Beyond and has participated in discussions at the Wharton Health Care Business Conference. Eddy draws on her personal experience with gestational diabetes and her expertise in clinical product innovation and health system economics to speak on technology, equity, and maternal care.
