Mick Jenkins is a Chicago-based rapper recognized for his contributions to contemporary conscious hip-hop. An American rapper signed to Cinematic Music Group, Jenkins developed his reputation through a strong work ethic and an artistic approach rooted in sharp lyricism, jazz-influenced production, and socially conscious themes. At age 17, he began attending open-mic events at Young Chicago Authors, an organization that engages young writers, signaling the literary ambition that would later define his music. Jenkins also became a member of Free Nation, a hip-hop group that promotes creative thought and challenges restrictive perspectives.

Jenkins gained early attention in the Chicago rap scene with a series of mixtapes, including "Trees & Truths," a 17-track project featuring biblical imagery that showcased his growth as a lyricist and elevated his profile within the local hip-hop community. A collaboration with fellow Chicago rappers Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa on the single "Crossroads" further expanded his reach. His second studio album, "Pieces of a Man," pays homage to Gil Scott-Heron's album of the same name, blending jazz, spoken word, and hip-hop, with guest appearances from Ghostface Killah and Corinne Bailey Rae. Jenkins' third full-length, "The Elephant in the Room," features serpentwithfeet on two tracks.

Jenkins has increasingly embraced abstraction, conceptual storytelling, and layered meaning in his work, with albums like "Pieces of a Man" and "The Patience" highlighting his refined lyricism and expanded melodic range while maintaining a cerebral focus. "The Patience" marked his first release away from Cinematic Music Group, in collaboration with RBC Records and BMG. Jenkins also worked with producer EMIL on the full-length "A Murder of Crows." NPR noted that "The Patience" represented a developmental milestone, while "A Murder of Crows" reflected a sense of resolution.
