Michelle McGann

Michelle McGann is a prominent figure in women's professional golf, with a career spanning nearly four decades on the LPGA and Legends Tours. Before turning professional, McGann was a three-time Florida State Junior champion, won the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship, was named the American Junior Golf Association Rolex Junior Player of the Year, earned a spot as a Rolex Junior First-Team All-American, and was ranked as the nation's top amateur by both GOLF Magazine and Golf Digest.

McGann joined the LPGA Tour and achieved seven LPGA career victories. Known for her signature wide-brim hat and powerful drives, she became a recognizable personality on the tour. Her professional victories include a win at the Sara Lee Classic, a playoff victory at the Youngstown-Warren LPGA Classic, and a title at the Takara World Invitational on the LPGA of Japan Tour. McGann also won the Oldsmobile Classic and State Farm Rail Classic in sudden-death playoffs, successfully defended her title at the Youngstown-Warren LPGA Classic, and was a member of the winning U.S. Solheim Cup Team. She later captured two more titles in a single season—the HEALTHSOUTH Inaugural, where she defeated Karrie Webb in a playoff, and the ShopRite LPGA Classic. McGann's 4-0 playoff record is tied with Se Ri Pak's as the best in LPGA history.

McGann achieved these milestones while managing type 1 diabetes, a condition she was diagnosed with at age 13. Despite the challenges posed by her diagnosis, she continued to compete at the highest levels of professional golf. Among her notable moments was a singles match victory over England's Laura Davies during the Solheim Cup in Wales.

Off the course, McGann has focused on diabetes advocacy and philanthropy. She and her husband established The Michelle McGann Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to diabetes awareness, education, and support. The fund provides grants for medication, support programs, and diabetic equipment, and has enabled hundreds of underprivileged children and young adults with type 1 diabetes to attend diabetes-related summer camps. McGann has contributed to diabetes causes including the Diabetes Research Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

McGann is the author of "Idiot's Guide to Golf" and has contributed to various books and publications on golf and diabetes. Her expertise in golf instruction and her advocacy for diabetes awareness have made her a respected voice in both the sports and health communities.

Her influence extends beyond golf. McGann was appointed to the board of the Florida Sports Foundation, the state's official sports promotion and development organization.
