Michael Penix Jr. is a professional NFL quarterback known for his resilience and performance in American football. Penix was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the eighth overall pick in the NFL Draft, entering the league with a reputation built on overcoming significant injuries and demonstrating consistent quarterback skills. During his college career, Penix played for the Indiana Hoosiers, where he faced season-ending ACL injuries and shoulder injuries that limited his playing time. Despite these setbacks, Penix continued his football journey, transferring to the Washington Huskies, where he led the FBS in passing yards per game and set the school record for single-season passing yards. He finished eighth in Heisman Trophy voting and earned AP Comeback Player of the Year honors.

Penix further distinguished himself by winning the Maxwell Award and leading the Huskies to the College Football Playoff National Championship. He finished second in Heisman Trophy voting, threw for 4,903 yards and 36 touchdowns in his final college season, and was named the Sugar Bowl's Most Valuable Player. Penix began his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons, making his debut against the Seattle Seahawks. In his first full season as Atlanta's starting quarterback, Penix appeared in nine games, completing 166 of 276 passes for 1,982 yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions, with a 60.1 percent completion rate and an average of 220.2 passing yards per game. His 1.1 percent interception rate was the lowest in the NFL among quarterbacks with at least 14 pass attempts per game.

After undergoing surgery for a torn ACL, Penix returned to the field following a period of rehabilitation. Atlanta named him the starting quarterback for the Week 3 game against the Green Bay Packers, marking his return to professional football. Penix's career continues to be defined by his perseverance, leadership, and performance as an NFL quarterback.
