Michael Lombardi

Michael Lombardi is a pioneering diving scientist, technologist, and contractor whose work spans academic research, commercial innovation, and public engagement in undersea exploration. With more than 25 years of experience, he has logged thousands of hours underwater, contributing to projects ranging from coral reef studies and deep-sea species discovery to infrastructure maintenance and life support system development.

As the founder of Lombardi Undersea LLC, based in Rhode Island, he focuses on the development of advanced diving technologies, including custom rebreather systems, portable underwater habitats, and specialized tools for both manned and unmanned vehicles. His innovations have played a key role in expanding the possibilities for human activity in extreme underwater environments.

Lombardi also founded Ocean Opportunity Inc., a nonprofit organization that promotes ocean exploration and education. Through this initiative, he has led a variety of public-facing projects and scientific missions and has collaborated with major institutions on deep-water exploration efforts.

He has received numerous honors for his work in marine science and technology, including recognition from leading industry organizations. Lombardi also serves as Co-Chair of the Marine Technology Society’s Diving Committee, where he continues to influence the future of diving science and innovation.
