Micah Nori

Micah Nori is a basketball coach who has built a nearly three-decade career in the NBA, culminating in his appointment as head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers. Nori was a three-sport athlete in high school before attending Indiana University, where he served as captain and middle infielder for the baseball team, helping lead the Hoosiers to a Big Ten Championship. After graduation, Nori earned a master's degree in sports organization at Miami University while working as a graduate assistant on the baseball coaching staff. His entry into professional basketball began when a family friend, newly hired as an NBA head coach, offered him an opportunity with the Toronto Raptors, launching his career in basketball coaching and player development.

Nori's NBA experience includes roles with the Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Minnesota Timberwolves. He advanced from intern to advanced scout, player development coach, assistant coach, and offensive coordinator. With the Raptors, Nori worked under head coaches Jay Triano and Dwane Casey before joining the Kings. He later joined the Nuggets as an assistant coach under Michael Malone and served as head coach of Denver's NBA Summer League team. In Denver, Nori collaborated with assistant coach Chris Finch to develop a free-flowing offensive style that became a hallmark of his coaching approach. He then served as head assistant and offensive coordinator for the Pistons.

When Finch became head coach of the Timberwolves, Nori joined as lead assistant, contributing to the team's playoff success. During a playoff run, Nori assumed on-court coaching duties after Finch sustained an injury, further demonstrating his leadership and adaptability. Nori also became known for his engaging sideline interviews and distinctive communication style during Timberwolves games.

Nori has been considered for multiple NBA head coaching positions, including with the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, and Chicago Bulls, before accepting the head coach role in Portland. He is recognized for his tactical acumen, player development expertise, and ability to foster strong relationships within teams. As head coach of the Trail Blazers, Nori leads a young, athletic roster featuring All-Star forward Deni Avdija and the return of Damian Lillard. His career reflects a commitment to basketball strategy, team building, and offensive innovation in the NBA.
