Memo Ochoa

Memo Ochoa is a Mexican former professional soccer goalkeeper recognized for his significant contributions to both club and international football. Ochoa began his career at Club América, making his first-team debut at 18 under manager Leo Beenhakker. He quickly established himself as the starting goalkeeper, earning the Liga MX Rookie of the Season honor and contributing to América's Liga MX and CONCACAF Champions Cup victories. Ochoa later played in Europe for clubs including Ajaccio in France, Málaga and Granada in Spain, Standard Liège in Belgium, and Salernitana in Italy, becoming one of the few Mexican players to sustain a career across multiple European leagues.

Internationally, Ochoa has been a key figure for the Mexico national team since earning his first cap at age 20. He is among a select group of players to participate in six FIFA World Cups, joining the ranks of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Ochoa's performances on the world stage include a standout match against Brazil at the FIFA World Cup, where his saves drew comparisons to Gordon Banks' historic stop against Pelé. He was named Man of the Match and ranked seventh in the International Federation of Football History & Statistics' list of the world's best goalkeepers that year. At the FIFA World Cup in Russia, Ochoa made nine saves against Germany, helping secure a 1–0 victory, and finished the tournament with 25 saves, second only to Belgium's Thibaut Courtois. In Qatar, he saved a penalty from Robert Lewandowski, earning Mexico a draw against Poland.

Ochoa's achievements with the Mexico national team include six CONCACAF Gold Cup titles, making him the most successful player in the competition's history. He also earned a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics and won the CONCACAF Nations League. Ochoa received the Golden Glove Award at the Gold Cup and was named to the tournament's Best XI.
