Mel Reid

Mel Reid is an English professional golfer known for her achievements on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and LPGA Tour. As an amateur, Reid won events such as the English Girls' Championship, the Helen Holm Trophy, the St Rule Trophy, and the Ladies' British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship. She represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup and was the low amateur at the Women's British Open. After turning professional, Reid was named LET Rookie of the Year, marking the beginning of her international golf career.

Reid secured her first LET win in Turkey and added two more victories the following year. She won six events on the Ladies European Tour, with her final win at the Oates Victorian Open. An Olympian with seven professional wins, Reid has been a four-time member of the Solheim Cup for Team Europe. Her best major finish was a tie for third at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, and her Solheim Cup record includes an unbeaten run of 3½ points out of four in one edition. Reid's LPGA career was highlighted by a win at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, establishing her as a champion in both European and American women's golf.

Reid's career has also been shaped by her resilience in overcoming personal adversity. After the loss of her mother in an automobile accident, Reid faced challenges both personally and professionally but rebuilt her game and continued to compete at the highest level on the LPGA Tour. She came out as gay in an interview with Athlete Ally and has been an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community within the golf industry, addressing discrimination and promoting inclusion. Reid also serves as an ambassador for Athlete Ally, an LGBTQ+ advocacy organization.

Following her retirement from professional golf, Reid transitioned into a media career. She launched the podcast "Quiet Please! With Mel and Kira" with sports reporter Kira Dixon and serves as an analyst for NBCUniversal's Olympic coverage and works with Golf Channel. In addition to her media roles, Reid serves as a vice captain for Team Europe at the Solheim Cup. Reid's expertise in women's golf, her advocacy for diversity and inclusion, and her presence in sports media continue to influence the industry.
