Meir Soloveichik

Rabbi Dr. Meir Y. Soloveichik is an Orthodox rabbi, writer, and public intellectual known for his contributions to Jewish thought and his role in American religious life.

As the senior rabbi of Congregation Shearith Israel in Manhattan, the oldest Jewish congregation in the United States, Soloveichik provides spiritual leadership to a historic community. He also serves as director of the Zahava and Moshael Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought at Yeshiva University.

Soloveichik engages audiences through lectures, essays, and media appearances, addressing topics such as Jewish theology, bioethics, wartime ethics, and the Hebraic roots of the American founding. His writings appear in publications including Commentary, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times. His book, "Providence and Power: Ten Portraits in Jewish Statesmanship," examines Jewish leadership throughout history and has been discussed at academic forums. Soloveichik is also a columnist and podcast host, contributing to public discourse on religion and ethics. He has also published, "Sacred Time," a book exploring how the Jewish calendar is a key that unlocks the very essence of Judaism.

Soloveichik received the Canterbury Medal from the Becket Fund for his advocacy of religious freedom and efforts to promote interfaith dialogue. He has testified before the U.S. Congress on law and religion and served on the State Department Commission on Inalienable Human Rights. Through his scholarship, public speaking, and leadership, Soloveichik advances tradition, intellectual engagement, and ethical dialogue in contemporary society.

His academic background includes graduating summa cum laude from Yeshiva University, rabbinic ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, advanced study at Yale Divinity School, and a doctorate in religion from Princeton University.
