Meghan Duggan

Meghan Duggan is recognized as one of the most accomplished athletes in women's ice hockey, known for her leadership both on and off the ice. Over a 14-year career with Team USA, Duggan competed in three Olympic Games and earned three Olympic medals, including leading the team to its first Olympic gold in two decades as captain.

As an all-star forward at the University of Wisconsin, Duggan contributed to three NCAA National Titles and graduated as the leading scorer in Wisconsin's history, recording 238 points with 108 goals and 130 assists in 159 career games. In her senior year, she received the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award as the top player in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey and USA Hockey's Bob Allen Women's Player of the Year Award.

Duggan's international career includes playing for the U.S. National Team in eight International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championships, where she won seven consecutive gold medals. She is the only U.S. hockey captain, male or female, to have captained teams on 10 different occasions. Team USA secured Olympic gold by defeating Canada in a shootout with Duggan serving as captain, a victory that earned her an ESPYS Award for Best Game and nominations for Best Olympic Moment and Best Team.

Beyond her athletic achievements, Duggan has been an advocate for gender equity in sports. She led the U.S. women's ice hockey team in announcing a boycott of the World Championship over inequitable support and conditions for women's hockey. After USA Hockey agreed to the players' demands, she led Team USA to a gold medal win at the tournament. This action resulted in the team receiving the Women's Sports Foundation's Wilma Rudolph Courage Award and being honored as ESPN's Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year. Teammate Kendall Coyne Schofield has noted that Duggan's legacy includes her efforts to improve the environment for players and advance women's hockey in the United States.

Following her retirement from professional hockey, Duggan transitioned to a leadership role in hockey operations. The New Jersey Devils appointed her as manager of player development, later promoting her to director of player development. She is among a small group of women in hockey operations roles in the National Hockey League. Duggan also completed a two-year tenure as president of the Women's Sports Foundation, an organization founded by Billie Jean King to promote female involvement in sports, and continues to serve as a board member.

Duggan is a keynote speaker and public voice on leadership and social change, addressing topics such as gender equality, women's empowerment, resilience, leadership, LGBTQ+ advocacy, teamwork, diversity and inclusion, performance under pressure, and goal-setting. She has delivered keynote addresses at events including the University of Wisconsin-Madison's commencement ceremony at Camp Randall Stadium and has spoken at institutions such as the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. Having overcome multiple injuries and setbacks, including two consecutive Olympic silver medal losses, Duggan's story of perseverance and achievement resonates with audiences in sports and beyond.
