Max Stier

Max Stier is the founding president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service, a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization focused on revitalizing the federal government by inspiring public service and transforming government operations. Under Stier's leadership since the organization's inception, the Partnership has become a recognized authority in federal workforce management, launching programs such as Call to Serve and Best Places to Work in the Federal Government rankings, as well as the Service to America Medals, which honor outstanding federal employees.

Stier's career spans all three branches of the federal government, including roles as deputy general counsel for litigation at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, clerkships for Justice David Souter of the U.S. Supreme Court and Chief Judge James Oakes of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and service on the staff of a U.S. congressman. He also practiced law at Williams & Connolly, focusing on white collar defense, and has contributed to advisory boards and commissions, including the National Academy of Public Administration and the Brookings Institution Public Sector Leadership Advisory Board.

A frequent public speaker and commentator on government effectiveness, Stier is known for his commitment to nonpartisan, results-driven reform and his ability to convene diverse stakeholders around the goal of better government.
