Matt Oguz

Matt Oguz is one of the few investors who built venture capital into a science. As founder of Silicon Valley's Venture Science, he pioneered the application of decision theory, Bayesian inference, and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis to early-stage investing — bringing engineering rigor to a field historically defined by intuition and pattern-matching.

Over more than a decade, Venture Science has backed 85+ companies and produced 15 unicorns. Oguz's investments span the defining technology cycles of the era: fintech (Circle, Ripple), consumer technology (Lyft, 23andMe, Lemonade), AI infrastructure (Lightmatter), quantum computing (PsiQuantum), space (Axiom Space, Privateer), and AI-driven healthcare (Paige, HeartFlow).

Today, Oguz leads Strata Fund, Venture Science's flagship hybrid evergreen vehicle, which combines venture capital with IPO allocations and public equities across the AI and quantum computing economy. He is also the architect of Helix, Venture Science's proprietary AI platform — eight integrated systems that automate public-market regime detection, deal sourcing, and private company due diligence. Oguz is one of a small handful of investors actively building the AI infrastructure he invests in.

A TechCrunch columnist and on-air commentator for CNBC and Bloomberg, Oguz is known for translating complex technical and financial concepts into clear, accessible narratives — equally comfortable on a main-stage keynote, an investor panel, or a televised segment. He holds a degree in civil engineering from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, completed graduate coursework at the University of Oxford, and earned an MBA in decision theory from the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University.
