Matt Campbell

Matt Campbell, currently in command of Pennsylvania State University's football team, has earned his reputation through an impressive coaching career. Campbell's journey in coaching started at the University of Toledo, where he led the team from 2011 to 2015, and subsequently at Iowa State University from 2016 to 2025. His tenure at Iowa State was particularly noteworthy as he led the team to their first regular-season first-place finish in the Big 12 in 119 years during the 2020 season. The same year, the team clinched the 2021 Fiesta Bowl, marking their first major-bowl appearance and victory.

Accolades have followed Campbell throughout his career. His coaching prowess was recognized with the MAC Coach of the Year award in 2015, and he was named Big 12 Coach of the Year three times in 2017, 2018, and 2020. He also received the AP Big 12 Coach of the Year award twice, in 2017 and 2020. In 2024, Campbell became the winningest coach in Iowa State history, reflecting his consistent performance. Furthermore, his teams are known for securing wins in crucial moments, as demonstrated by four last-minute victories in the 2024 season.

Prior to his coaching career, Campbell was a player and coach for the Mount Union Purple Raiders football team, contributing to their NCAA Division III national champion teams in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2006. His coaching journey also included roles at various institutions such as Bowling Green, Toledo, and Iowa State, in states including Ohio and Iowa.
