Matt & Kim

Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino, known professionally as Matt and Kim, are an American indie electronic duo based in Brooklyn, New York. Johnson handles keyboards and vocals, while Schifino plays drums. The pair met while attending Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, where they began learning their respective instruments. Encouraged by fellow musicians from the band Japanther, Johnson and Schifino started performing live at house shows and lofts throughout Brooklyn before expanding their reach to national tours.

Matt and Kim's music blends elements of punk-pop, hip-hop, and indie pop, creating a distinctive dance-punk sound characterized by energetic rhythms and catchy melodies. Their self-titled debut album, "Matt & Kim," introduced them to the indie music scene. Their second album, "Grand," marked a significant milestone by entering the Billboard 200 and featuring the gold-certified single "Daylight." The music video for "Lessons Learned" from "Grand" received the Breakthrough Video Award at the MTV Video Music Awards. Their third album, "Sidewalks," incorporated a denser hip-hop influence, while "Lightning," their fourth album, was self-produced in their Brooklyn apartment and featured the single "Let's Go," which reached number 20 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart.

Known for energetic live performances, Matt and Kim have played at major music festivals, including Bonnaroo, Coachella, and Firefly Music Festival. Their shows are recognized for their high-energy and participatory atmosphere. The duo has also appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and supported Fall Out Boy on a UK arena tour, including performances at Wembley Arena.

After Schifino suffered an ACL injury during a performance in Mexico, the duo took time off, channeling their experiences into their sixth studio album, "Almost Everyday." The album features collaborations with artists such as King Tuff, Santigold, Kevin Morby, Kevin Ray of Walk The Moon, Dave Monks of Tokyo Police Club, and Van Pierszalowski of WATERS. Despite further injury setbacks, Matt and Kim completed a U.S. tour celebrating the anniversary of "Grand," performing the album in full and incorporating multimedia elements documenting its creation.

Matt and Kim's discography and relentless touring have established them as a prominent act in the indie electronic and dance-punk scenes. Their music is defined by a DIY ethos, keyboard-driven synth lines, and a commitment to high-energy, communal live experiences.
