Mats Granryd

Mats Granryd is senior advisor to the GSM Association (GMSA) and a member of its board. In this role, Granryd leads the GSMA in supporting its global membership through a range of industry programs, advocacy initiatives, and industry events focused on mobile technology and telecommunications.

Granryd is a proponent of sustainability and led the mobile industry in becoming the first sector to broadly commit to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He spearheads initiatives to amplify and accelerate the mobile industry’s impact on all 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals, across both developed and developing markets.

Granryd serves on the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development, which focuses on leveraging information and communications technology (ICT) and broadband-based technologies for sustainable development. Within the commission, he chairs the Working Group on Digital Gender Divide, addressing the digital gender gap and fostering the inclusion of women and girls in broadband access and use. Granryd is also involved with The B Team, a not-for-profit initiative formed by a global group of business leaders to promote responsible business practices for the wellbeing of people and the planet. He has served as a commissioner on the Business & Sustainable Development Commission, collaborating with CEOs across industries to advance a sustainable, inclusive economy.

Before joining the GSMA, Granryd was president and CEO of Tele2, a European telecom operator with more than 16 million customers across nine countries. He previously spent 15 years at Ericsson in various roles, including head of Northern Europe and Central Asia, and led business units in North West Europe, India, CDMA, and North Africa, as well as global customer accounts for Vodafone and Bharti.

Granryd holds a Master of Science from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.
