Mason Durell Betha, known professionally as Mase, is an American rapper, songwriter, and minister recognized for his influence on hip-hop in the late 1990s. Raised in Harlem, New York, Mase began his music career as a member of Children of the Corn, a collective that included Big L and Cam'ron. His career shifted when he attended a music conference in Atlanta and was signed to Bad Boy Records by Sean Combs. Mase became a prominent artist on the label, contributing to hits such as Puff Daddy's "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down" and The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Mo Money Mo Problems."

Mase's debut solo album, "Harlem World," debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and achieved quadruple platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. The album included singles like "Feel So Good" and "What You Want," establishing his presence in both rap and R&B. Over several years, Mase earned multiple Billboard Hot 100 top-10 hits and US Rap number-one singles as a lead or featured artist, demonstrating crossover appeal. His work has influenced artists in the hip-hop industry, with Kanye West citing Mase as a favorite rapper.

At the peak of his career, Mase retired from music to pursue ministry, founding S.A.N.E. (Saving a Nation Endangered) Ministries. He traveled nationally, sharing messages focused on peace and spiritual renewal. Mase documented his transition from music to ministry in his memoir, "Revelations: There's a Light After the Lime," co-written with Karen Hunter and published by Atria Books. The memoir details his rise in the music industry, his decision to leave, and his spiritual journey.

Mase later returned to hip-hop with his third studio album, "Welcome Back," which received gold certification from the RIAA. He has continued to balance music and ministry, collaborating with artists such as 50 Cent and Kanye West while maintaining his pastoral work. Mase also co-hosts the sports and entertainment talk show "It Is What It Is" with Cam'ron, providing commentary on music, sports, and pop culture. His career reflects ongoing engagement with hip-hop, faith, and cultural commentary.
