Mary Lee Hafley

Mary Lee Hafley is a recognized expert in the field of domestic violence, with more than two decades of leadership experience at the local, state, and national levels. A graduate of Texas Christian University, Hafley developed her career in the nonprofit sector, serving as president and CEO of SafeHaven of Tarrant County in Fort Worth, Texas, one of the largest domestic violence shelters in the state. During her tenure, SafeHaven operated two emergency shelter facilities for women and children and provided education to approximately 60,000 individuals annually on the warning signs of abusive relationships and how to access support services.

Hafley led SafeHaven's community outreach efforts, including the "Legacy of Men" initiative, which engaged athletes and coaches to encourage men to speak out against abuse. She connected the issue of domestic violence to broader cultural conversations, including those involving the NFL and the Penn State scandal, demonstrating her ability to translate complex social issues for diverse audiences. Hafley also supported innovative approaches to victim safety, such as the use of digital tools and smartphone applications to help survivors seek assistance discreetly.

Hafley has received recognition for her contributions to domestic violence prevention and nonprofit leadership. She was honored by United Way of Metropolitan Tarrant County with the "Hercules Professional Award" and by the Center for Non-profit Management with the "Innovation in Action Award."
