Marlon Funaki

Marlon Funaki is a singer-songwriter and self-taught multi-instrumentalist from California known for blending alternative rock, psychedelia, jazz-influenced guitar, and soulful R&B. Of Japanese and Mexican American heritage, Funaki writes, records, mixes, and masters his own music, emphasizing creative independence and authenticity. His work has attracted a global audience interested in genre-defying music and independent artistry.

Funaki began his musical journey in a middle school jazz band, starting with drums before teaching himself guitar through online tutorials. He released his first single, "Get Out of My Face," on SoundCloud as a teenager, which marked the beginning of his music career.

Funaki performed at local house parties and warehouse shows before gaining national attention. His self-financed debut EP, The Universal Language, was followed by the full-length album, Monterey Village, a ten-track project reflecting personal experiences. Additional releases, including the singles "Red Hearts" and "Murphy's Law," as well as the "Overdue" and "Half Moon" EPs, released via Warner Records, highlight his evolving sound and commitment to musical exploration.

A significant moment in Funaki's career occurred when country artist Billy Currington invited him to open at Toyota Arena and on select dates of a North American tour after seeing his performance at Aviator Nation Dreamland in Malibu. Funaki has also shared stages with UK indie band Palace.

Funaki was selected for Southwest Airlines' Artist on the Rise program and won a fan vote to perform on the main stage at the Luck Reunion Festival at Willie Nelson's ranch in Texas. His performance there contributed to his recognition as an emerging artist in the U.S. With more than 1.2 million monthly Spotify listeners and appearances at events such as Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival and The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, England, Funaki continues to expand his presence in the psych-pop, indie rock, and R&B music scenes.
