Mark Stoops Biography
Mark Stoops served as head coach of the University of Kentucky football program from November 27, 2012, until 2025. During his tenure, he etched his name into the history of the Kentucky Wildcats football program, not only as the longest-tenured head coach but also as the all-time winningest coach by 2022, a record previously held by Paul "Bear" Bryant. Stoops' leadership led the team to its first 10-win season since 1977 in 2018, a feat that earned him the SEC Coach of the Year title.
Under Stoops' guidance, the Kentucky Wildcats enjoyed a period of sustained success, including four consecutive bowl victories from 2018 to 2021. A notable highlight was the team's victory over Penn State in the Citrus Bowl on January 1, 2019. Additionally, the team managed to upset No. 11 Louisville 41–38 in 2016, further testament to Stoops' ability to lead his team to significant victories. This success led to a contract extension in 2022, which would have seen Stoops remain with Kentucky through the 2030 season.
Prior to his time with the Kentucky Wildcats, Stoops was part of the coaching staff for the 2001 Miami Hurricanes football team, contributing to their national championship victory.
