Mark McGrath is an American singer and television personality best known as the lead vocalist of the Southern California rock band Sugar Ray. McGrath, Rodney Sheppard, Murphy Karges, and Stan Frazier formed Sugar Ray in Orange County, California. After signing with Atlantic Records and releasing the debut album "Lemonade and Brownies," the band's first mainstream hit came with the song "Fly," released from the album "Floored" and featuring reggae musician Super Cat. "Floored" showcased the band's evolving sound with the assistance of Grammy Award-winning producer David Kahane and earned double platinum certification from the RIAA, driven by the No. 1 single, "Fly."
The album "14:59" further established Sugar Ray's presence in the pop rock landscape, producing a series of popular singles including "Someday," "Falls Apart," and another No. 1 hit, "Every Morning." Over the following decades, Sugar Ray sold 10 million records, achieved four top 10 songs, amassed hundreds of millions of streams, and sold millions of concert tickets. McGrath appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone and was named "Sexiest Rocker" by People magazine, becoming a recognizable figure in the late 1990s music scene.
Beyond his work with Sugar Ray, McGrath has built a diverse television career. He began as co-host of the syndicated entertainment news program Extra after gaining attention for hosting various VH1 and MTV programs. McGrath went on to host a range of shows, including The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, NBC's Radio Music Awards, MTV's Rock N' Jock, and the World Music Awards. He also hosted "Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll," "Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious," and the third season of "Don't Forget the Lyrics." McGrath is a three-time champion of Rock & Roll Jeopardy! on VH1, winning the finals against Dave Mustaine of Megadeth and Gary Dell'Abate of The Howard Stern Show.
McGrath's television presence has continued with appearances on The Masked Singer as the wild card contestant Orca. He has served as host and narrator of the documentary television series "Dark Side of the 90s" and "Dark Side of the 2000s." In the music industry, McGrath joined Emerson Hart of Tonic and Kevin Griffin of Better Than Ezra to form the supergroup Ezra Ray Hart, a collective with nearly 20 top-ten hits among its members. He also hosts a show on SiriusXM's 90s on 9 channel.
McGrath supports individuals and families experiencing cancer through his McGrath Foundation. His career spans music, television, and radio, making him a recognizable figure in 1990s rock and pop culture, with a reputation for adaptability and audience engagement across multiple platforms.
