Marilyn Tavenner

Marilyn Tavenner is an American health care executive and public official known for her leadership as administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, where she oversaw the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and managed one of the largest federal agencies responsible for health coverage for more than 100 million Americans. During her tenure at the agency, Tavenner guided the organization through significant reforms and the rollout of HealthCare.gov, demonstrating accountability in addressing technical challenges.

Before her federal service, Tavenner built a career in the private sector, advancing from a nursing role to executive leadership at HCA Healthcare, where she served as group president of outpatient services. She also held the position of secretary of health and human resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia, overseeing a broad portfolio of health and social service programs and managing substantial budgets and personnel.
