Marco Iansiti

Marco Iansiti is a leading authority on technology strategy, digital innovation, and the business implications of artificial intelligence. He holds the David Sarnoff Professorship of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, where his research focuses on technology and operations strategy and the management of innovation. Iansiti heads the Technology and Operations Management Unit and chairs the Digital Initiative at Harvard Business School.

Iansiti graduated from Harvard University with an A.B. in physics and earned a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard, with a thesis on experimental low temperature electronics and semiconductor microfabrication techniques. His research examines the digital transformation of companies and industries, with a focus on the impact of AI on strategy, business, and operating models. His work on business ecosystems and their influence on strategy has been widely cited in the fields of digital transformation and innovation management.

Iansiti has developed courses on managing product development, starting new ventures, and digital innovation and transformation. He is responsible for the Digital Transformation course module in the Executive Education Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

In "Competing in the Age of AI," co-authored with Karim R. Lakhani, Iansiti explores how businesses can adapt to an AI-driven economy, using case studies from companies such as Amazon, Ant Financial, and Peloton to illustrate the need for rethinking business strategies and embracing digital transformation. "Competing in the Age of AI" has been featured in The Financial Times, Forbes, and MIT Sloan Management Review, and was shortlisted for the Thinkers50 Strategy Award. His article "Democratizing Transformation," co-authored with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, was featured as a bonus article in HBR's 10 Must Reads.

Iansiti is the author or co-author of more than 100 publications. He advises Global 1000 companies on digital strategy and transformation and has conducted research on organizations including Microsoft, Facebook, IBM, Amazon, Alibaba, and Google. He serves as chairman of the board of Keystone Strategy, a consultancy focused on strategy, data sciences, and economics for technology clients. Iansiti has co-founded several companies, including Model N and Keystone Strategy LLC. His work continues to influence how leaders across industries approach competition and digital transformation in an AI-driven business environment.
