
Marcelo Claure is a Bolivian-American technology entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist with a career spanning global telecommunications, venture capital, and technology investment. Claure founded Brightstar, growing it into a leading global wireless distribution and services company in the telecommunications industry. Brightstar was recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the largest privately held companies in the United States, by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest-growing companies in the country, and by HispanicBusiness.com as the largest Hispanic-owned business in the United States for several years.
Claure sold Brightstar to SoftBank Group and became CEO of Sprint, where he led a turnaround and delivered strong financial results. He subsequently led the $195 billion merger between Sprint and T-Mobile, creating a major telecommunications company. After the merger, Claure was promoted to CEO of SoftBank Group International, overseeing a portfolio of 40 companies and managing assets exceeding $450 billion.
Claure launched the $8 billion SoftBank Latin America Fund, the largest venture capital fund in the region, and the SoftBank Opportunity Fund, a $100 million fund dedicated to entrepreneurs of color. Under his leadership, the Opportunity Fund deployed its initial $100 million into 75 Black- and Latino-led companies. Claure continues to support underrepresented founders as vice chairman and general partner of the Open Opportunity Fund.
Claure is the founder and CEO of Claure Group, a global investment firm operating across sectors such as telecommunications, technology, media, real estate, infrastructure, climate and energy transition, fashion, and sports. He invests in artificial intelligence and longevity-focused companies, including OpenAI, SpaceX, Anthropic, Databricks, K-Health, Altos Labs, and Oura. Claure is the largest independent shareholder of T-Mobile and serves as the lead board member for its AI and digital transformation initiatives.
Claure co-chairs Harvard's Digital Data Design (D3) Institute at Harvard Business School, which focuses on digital and AI-driven business initiatives. He has received recognition such as induction into the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Hall of Fame, being named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, and receiving the Great Immigrants Recipient award from Carnegie Corporation. Bloomberg has estimated his net worth at $2 billion. In addition to his business ventures, Claure is a sports investor, owning Club BolĂvar in Bolivia and co-owning Girona FC in Spain and New York City FC in the United States with City Football Group.
