Major Lazer

Major Lazer is an American electronic dance music group led by producer Diplo, with DJs Walshy Fire and Ape Drums. The group was founded by Diplo and Switch, who met while working with M.I.A., and quickly became known for blending reggae, dancehall, reggaeton, soca, house, and moombahton into a genre-fluid style that appeals to global audiences.

The group's debut album, "Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do," was recorded at Jamaica's Tuff Gong Studios and released through Downtown Records, featuring guest vocalists such as Santigold, Vybz Kartel, and Busy Signal. After Switch's departure, Diplo continued the project with new members Jillionaire and Walshy Fire, releasing "Free the Universe," which debuted at number one on the US Dance charts and included collaborations with Bruno Mars, Wyclef Jean, and Shaggy. Major Lazer also produced "Reincarnated," the debut reggae album by Snoop Dogg under the Snoop Lion persona, further establishing the group as versatile producers in the electronic and dance music industry.

Major Lazer reached mainstream success with the third studio album, "Peace Is the Mission," featuring the global hit "Lean On" with DJ Snake and MØ. The track peaked at number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number two in the UK, and became Spotify's most-streamed song at the time, with over 2.4 billion streams. Billboard named "Lean On" the top Dance/Electronic song of the year, and the group won the Billboard Music Award for Best Dance/Electronic Song for the track. The follow-up single, "Cold Water," featuring Justin Bieber and MØ, debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number one in several countries, including the UK.

Major Lazer has expanded into other media with an animated television series on FXX as part of the Animation Domination block, furthering the group's presence in pop culture. The fourth studio album, "Music Is the Weapon," featured an international lineup including J Balvin, Nicki Minaj, Khalid, Anitta, and Burna Boy, highlighting the group's ongoing commitment to global sounds and cultures. Billboard ranked Major Lazer at number five on the Billboard Dance 100 list of top dance musicians. With a catalog spanning continents and genres, Major Lazer remains a prominent and influential act in contemporary electronic and dance music.
