MUNA

MUNA is a queer indie pop band formed in 2013, consisting of lead vocalist Katie Gavin, guitarist Josette Maskin, and guitarist/producer Naomi McPherson. The trio met while studying at the University of Southern California and began collaborating musically during their college years.

Their debut studio album, "About U," was released in 2017 under RCA Records, showcasing a blend of dark-pop, synth-pop, and dance-pop influences. This was followed by their second album, "Saves the World," in 2019, which received positive reviews for its introspective themes and '80s-style synths.

In 2020, MUNA parted ways with RCA Records and subsequently signed with Phoebe Bridgers' Saddest Factory Records. Their self-titled third album, "MUNA," was released in June 2022, marking a shift towards a more ambitious and pop-centric sound. The album includes the single "Silk Chiffon," featuring Bridgers, which has been described as a "queer wormhole" and a tribute to LGBTQ+ culture.

All three members identify as queer, with McPherson also identifying as non-binary. Initially cautious about being labeled a "queer band," they have embraced this identity, using their platform to inspire young individuals to feel comfortable with their own identities. citeturn0search1 Their music frequently addresses themes of sexuality and gender, aiming to create a safe and inclusive space for listeners.

In addition to their studio work, MUNA has toured extensively, supporting artists such as Harry Styles, Kacey Musgraves, and Taylor Swift. Their live performances are known for their energy and emotional resonance, further solidifying their reputation in the indie pop scene.

In October 2024, Katie Gavin released her debut solo album, "What a Relief," exploring personal themes and showcasing her individual artistry.
