Luciano Wernicke

Luciano Wernicke is an Argentine journalist, screenwriter, and sports author whose career spans nearly three decades, with experience in sports journalism, book authorship, and editorial leadership. Wernicke graduated in journalism from the University of Salvador and began his career in sports media, contributing to publications such as the magazine El Gráfico and the newspaper Olé. He also served as political and general information editor at Diarios y Noticias News Agency for 22 years. In addition, Wernicke taught journalism techniques and text composition at Círculo de Periodistas Deportivos for approximately 20 years.

Wernicke is the author of more than 20 sports books, published in 30 countries and translated from Spanish into 18 languages, including French, Italian, Arabic, Czech, Indonesian, Malay, German, Finnish, Russian, English, Slovak, Hungarian, Estonian, Japanese, Thai, Greek, Georgian, and Portuguese. His catalog includes titles such as "The Most Incredible World Cup Stories," "The Most Incredible Olympic Stories," "The Most Incredible Football Stories," "Doctor and Champion" (the autobiography of Carlos Bilardo), "The Most Incredible Copa Libertadores Stories," "Matador" (the autobiography of Mario Kempes), "Duel Never Seen," "Inside Diego," "Football Drops," and "Dark Goals." He has also presented work at the Bogota International Book Fair, including "The History of Football in 500 Matches," published by Penguin Random House.

Wernicke's writing blends sporting history with broader human, social, and political narratives. His book "The Dark Side of the Copa Libertadores" explores the tournament's untold stories of glory and disgrace, heroes and villains, and the emotional extremes that define football in South America.

Wernicke has extensive experience covering sports from socio-political and cultural perspectives as a sports journalist and author. He also served as an assistant to the manager of the Costa Rica National Football Team, Gustavo Matosas. Through his work, Wernicke has contributed to the global understanding of football history, sports culture, and the intersection of sports with society and politics.
