Lizann Lightfoot

Lizann Lightfoot is a recognized voice in the military spouse community and the creator of the "Seasoned Spouse" blog. Lightfoot is an experienced writer, editor, and speaker for the military community, holding a bachelor's degree in English language and literature and a master's degree in business administration. After two decades as a Marine spouse—including seven deployments, six permanent change of station moves, five children, and three years overseas—Lightfoot specializes in providing resources and support to families navigating the challenges of military life. Her platform serves as a hub for military spouses and loved ones managing deployments, relocations, and overseas assignments.

Lightfoot is the author of "Welcome to Rota," the "Ultimate Deployment Guide," and "Open When: Letters of Encouragement for Military Spouses." "Open When" was her first traditionally published work, released through Elva Resa Publishing and distributed by Military Family Books. The book has received recognition, including a Book Award Finalist and a Gold Award, while "She Writes for Him" received a Silver Award. Lightfoot has self-published two books, contributed to a Christian writers' anthology, and participated in a cookbook with Robert Irvine.

Her print articles have appeared in Military Spouse magazine, Military Families Magazine, National Guard and Reserve Magazine, and G.I. Jobs. She has published hundreds of digital articles on platforms such as Military One Source, MilspouseFest, Task & Purpose, Military.com, PCSgrades, Military By Owner, and Military Wife and Mom. Lightfoot founded the Facebook group "Handle Deployment Like a Boss," which has grown to more than 8,000 members. The "Seasoned Spouse" blog gained media attention after exposing issues with the RECP energy billing program on military bases, leading to Lightfoot's appearances on local news channels.

Lightfoot was named Military Spouse of the Year for Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, California, in recognition of her work supporting military families during deployment. She has presented workshops at national conferences, delivered keynotes for military spouse retreats, and led discussions in both virtual and in-person settings, including engagements at the Military Influencer Conference. Lightfoot has been interviewed on more than 40 podcasts, sharing expertise in military spouse entrepreneurship, book writing and marketing, and deployment experiences.

Lightfoot previously served as senior content editor for PCSgrades, a company supporting military families through PCS moves, and as director of marketing and content for GoVA, which provides free financial education and wellness resources to the military and veteran community. As an interviewer and storyteller, Lightfoot helps others share their experiences to benefit service members and spouses throughout their military journeys.
