Liu Cixin

Liu Cixin is a science fiction writer and computer engineer from the People's Republic of China. Liu began writing science fiction as a hobby, and "The Three-Body Problem" brought him international recognition. Influenced by authors such as Jules Verne, Arthur C. Clarke, and George Orwell, Liu's work is rooted in hard science fiction, focusing on scientific and technical accuracy and exploring concepts like quantum entanglement, nuclear thermal propulsion, and multidimensional unfolding.

Liu's "Remembrance of Earth's Past" trilogy, which includes "The Three-Body Problem," "The Dark Forest," and "Death's End," has played a significant role in introducing Chinese science fiction to global audiences. The English translation of "The Three-Body Problem" won the Hugo Award for Best Novel, making Liu the first Asian author to receive this honor. The trilogy has sold millions of copies worldwide and has contributed to the growing international interest in Chinese science fiction literature.

Liu has received numerous accolades, including nine Galaxy Awards, the Locus Award for "Death's End," the Chinese Nebula Award, and the Arthur C. Clarke Foundation's award for Imagination in Service to Society. He is the author of seven novels and multiple short stories, with his writing often described as fables about human progress, blending concrete scientific imagination with broad, parable-like themes.

In addition to his novels, Liu has published collections such as "To Hold Up the Sky" and "The Wandering Earth." The latter was adapted into a film that became China's first large-scale science fiction blockbuster and one of its highest-grossing movies. Liu's influence extends to television, with an English-language adaptation, "3 Body Problem," produced for Netflix.
