Lionel Scaloni

Lionel Scaloni is an Argentine football manager and former professional player known for his leadership of the Argentina national football team. As a player, Scaloni built his club career with Newell's Old Boys, Estudiantes, Deportivo La Coruña, West Ham United, Racing Santander, Lazio, Mallorca, and Atalanta, operating primarily as a right-back or right midfielder. He represented Argentina's national youth teams, winning the FIFA World Youth Championship and scoring the opening goal in the quarter-final against Brazil. After making his senior debut for Argentina in a friendly against Libya, Scaloni was selected for the FIFA World Cup, taking the place of veteran Javier Zanetti.

Scaloni began his coaching career as part of Jorge Sampaoli's staff at Sevilla and later served as assistant coach for the Argentina national team. Following Argentina's exit from the FIFA World Cup, Scaloni and Pablo Aimar were named caretaker managers. Despite initial skepticism and opposition to his appointment, Scaloni guided the national team through a period of transition, emphasizing tactical flexibility and a collective approach to football.

His tenure includes a World Cup final victory over France, decided on penalties after a 3-3 draw, marking Argentina's first World Cup win since 1986. Scaloni became the youngest manager since 1978 and the fourth youngest to win the World Cup. He has been recognized as the best men's national coach by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics and received The Best FIFA Men's Coach award.

Scaloni's record as Argentina's head coach includes 72 wins, 18 draws, and nine defeats in his first 100 matches, with the team scoring 208 goals and conceding 52.
