Kida the Great, born Leon Akida Burns, is an American hip-hop dancer, choreographer, and actor recognized for his contributions to the global dance community. Burns began developing his dance skills at age four, practicing with his older brother. By age six, he joined his first hip-hop crew and performed alongside dancers significantly older than himself. He later became a member of the dance crew The ART of Teknique. A viral dance battle video featuring the crew led to an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, marking an early milestone in his national recognition. Burns has received honors such as Best Kid Dancer at the Sacramento Music Festival and the Sacramento State Fair, and was named Most Inspirational Dancer.
Burns gained widespread attention after winning the grand prize on the thirteenth season of "So You Think You Can Dance: Next Generation," where he was voted America's Favorite Dancer. Partnered with all-star dancer Fik-Shun, he performed routines that showcased popping, locking, and contemporary hip-hop, becoming the show's youngest champion. His preparation included extensive training in styles such as African Jazz and Ballroom, overcoming injuries and personal challenges. Burns also delivered a solo routine on the show as a tribute to his late father.
Following his national television breakthrough, Burns expanded his career into music, film, and live performance. He performed with Usher at the BET Awards and appeared in music videos for Kendrick Lamar's "Alright" and "Not Like Us." Burns choreographed and appeared in Justin Bieber's music video for "Come Around Me" and made a cameo in the Disney movie "Zombies 2." He has performed with artists including Offset, Usher, and Busta Rhymes.
Burns is known for his precise footwork, musicality, and syncopated choreography, which have contributed to his significant following on social media. He is a member of several dance groups, including Family First Crew, The Art of Teknique, and Chapkidz, the latter two holding HHI World Champion titles. Burns joined Kendrick Lamar on the Grand National Tour, performing in multiple cities. He also serves as a celebrity trainer in the XR fitness game "xFIT Powered by World of Dance," where he leads rhythm-based hip-hop workouts. Burns continues to be active in the dance industry, mentoring young dancers and expanding his work in acting and music-video choreography.
