Larenz Tate

Larenz Tate is an American actor known for his versatility and emotional range in film and television. Tate began his acting career after enrolling in a drama program at the Inner City Cultural Center in California, where he and his brothers became serious about acting after witnessing a classmate secure a major television role. His early career gained momentum with an appearance in a Christmas episode of "The Twilight Zone," followed by roles on series such as "21 Jump Street," "Matlock," and "The Wonder Years." He also appeared in the miniseries "The Women of Brewster Place."

Tate's breakthrough came when directors Albert and Allen Hughes cast him in their debut feature, "Menace II Society," where he played O-Dog. He later worked with the Hughes brothers again in "Dead Presidents" and starred as a poet in the romantic drama "Love Jones." Tate portrayed pop singer Frankie Lymon in the biopic "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?" These roles established his reputation as an actor capable of leading diverse projects in the film industry.

Throughout the 2000s, Tate expanded his filmography with roles in "Biker Boyz," "A Man Apart," and as Quincy Jones in the biopic "Ray." He appeared in the ensemble drama "Crash" and gained recognition on television with a supporting role in the FX series "Rescue Me." Tate later joined the casts of "House of Lies" on Showtime and "Rush" on USA Network. He has received multiple NAACP Image Awards, including for his performances in "Love Jones" and "Power Book II: Ghost."

Tate played Councilman Rashad Tate on "Power" and continued the role in the sequel series "Power Book II: Ghost." This long-running character highlighted his ability to portray political complexity and moral ambiguity. In addition to acting, Tate co-founded the production company Tate Men Entertainment with his brothers, demonstrating his commitment to content creation and storytelling in the entertainment industry. He is also a mentor and former spokesperson for BLOOM, a social initiative supporting at-risk youth, and co-created The Tate Bros. Foundation to raise awareness of sickle cell anemia.

Tate portrayed Berry Gordy in the biopic "Michael," further establishing his experience in portraying real-life figures, including previous roles as Quincy Jones in "Ray" and Frankie Lymon in "Why Do Fools Fall in Love." With a career spanning over four decades, Tate continues to be recognized for his contributions to film, television, and social advocacy.
