Lambert Hogenhout

Lambert Hogenhout serves as chief data and AI officer at the United Nations Secretariat, where he oversees policy, governance, and strategic initiatives in data, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. Hogenhout brings 25 years of experience in the private sector and with international organizations, including the World Bank and the United Nations. His career began in humanitarian affairs, deploying technology to support communities affected by earthquakes and civil wars, before transitioning to data analytics and adopting tools such as machine learning and generative AI.

At the United Nations, Hogenhout has played a key role in advancing technology initiatives. He advises senior leaders on digital transformation, as well as the risks and ethical considerations associated with data and AI. Hogenhout authored an article outlining an ethical framework for AI at the United Nations, contributing to the development of the organization's Principles for the Ethical Use of AI. He has also led the United Nations' data literacy program, which has trained a significant portion of staff to foster critical thinking about the role of AI in global operations. Hogenhout has championed practical applications of AI, including optimizing food delivery logistics in crisis situations and providing AI-driven agricultural insights to support the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals related to poverty and food security.

Together with Amanda Wang, he co-authored "Data Privacy Across Borders," a guide for organizations operating globally that advocates for using data privacy as a strategic differentiator.
