Formed in 2004 at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Lake Street Dive has since become a recognized name in the music industry. The band, consisting of Rachael Price, Bridget Kearney, Mike Calabrese, Akie Bermiss, and James Cornelison, has released numerous albums under several major labels including Signature Sounds, Nonesuch Records, and Fantasy Records. Bridget Kearney's talent was recognized early on, winning the Jazz Category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2005. The band's dynamic music, described as a blend of classic pop with swing-era jazz, Motown and the Brill Building sounds, has achieved chart success on Billboard, including categories like the Billboard 200, Alternative Albums, Americana/Folk Albums, Independent Albums, Top Rock Albums, and Canadian Albums.
Their talent for creating engaging music videos is demonstrated by their cover of "I Want You Back" by Jackson 5 on YouTube, which has garnered over 6 million views. They have also appeared on popular television shows such as "The Colbert Report", "The Late Show with David Letterman", "Conan", and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show". Their songwriting skills were further recognized when they wrote the theme song for the TV show "Somebody Feed Phil", earning an Emmy nomination for original main title theme music. Lake Street Dive has a tradition of releasing humorous Halloween cover videos, with one notable cover being Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".
Lake Street Dive has performed at numerous international venues, including tours in North America, Australia, Europe, Japan, New Zealand, and participated in major music festivals such as the Newport Folk Festival. Their album releases, including "Bad Self Portraits," "Side Pony," "Free Yourself Up," "Obviously," and "Good Together," have been widely received.
