LaTanya Richardson Jackson

LaTanya Richardson Jackson's diverse and extensive acting career is marked by a variety of roles in theatre, film, and television. In 2014, she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Play for her performance in "A Raisin in the Sun." She further demonstrated her theatrical prowess in Aaron Sorkin's adaptation of "To Kill a Mockingbird" on Broadway during the 2018–19 season. In addition, Richardson Jackson was nominated for a Tony Award in 2025 for Best Actress in a Play for "Purpose."

Richardson Jackson's filmography includes appearances in notable movies such as "Fried Green Tomatoes," "Malcolm X," "Sleepless in Seattle," and "U.S. Marshals." She also made regular appearances on the popular television show "Grey's Anatomy" as Maggie Pierce’s adoptive mother, Diane, from 2017 to 2023. Her television credentials also include roles in "100 Centre Street," "Show Me a Hero," "Luke Cage," and "Rebel." For "Show Me a Hero," she was nominated for an Image Award in 2016 for Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie or Limited Series, and for "The Watsons Go to Birmingham," she was nominated for a Black Reel Award in 2014 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a TV Movie.

In addition to acting, Richardson Jackson has also ventured into directing. In September 2022, she made her directorial debut with the Broadway revival of August Wilson's play "The Piano Lesson" at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. Her work also extends to voice performances, for which she was recognized with the Audie Award in 2010 for Audiobook of the Year and Multi-Voiced Performance for "Nelson Mandela's Favorite African Folktales."
