Kyle Whittingham Biography
Kyle Whittingham is a college football coach best known for his long and successful tenure as head coach of the University of Utah Utes. Born in San Luis Obispo, California, Whittingham played linebacker at Brigham Young University, where he earned first-team All-WAC honors before beginning his coaching career. He joined the Utah coaching staff in 1994 as a defensive line coach and later served as defensive coordinator under Urban Meyer. In 2005, Whittingham was named head coach, and he has since become the winningest coach in Utah football history.
Under his leadership, the Utes have earned national recognition, highlighted by an undefeated 2008 season capped with a Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama, and multiple Pac-12 championships since joining the conference. Known for his disciplined approach, defensive expertise, and consistency, Whittingham has built Utah into a perennial contender on the national stage and is widely respected as one of college football’s most steady and accomplished coaches.
