Kyle Whittingham

Kyle Whittingham, currently serving as the head football coach at the University of Michigan, has a rich history of coaching successes. Whittingham began his head coaching career at the University of Utah in 2005, where he led the team to numerous victories, including 177 overall and 11 of 17 bowl games. Notably, under Whittingham's guidance, the Utah Utes achieved a perfect 13-0 record in 2008 and won the Mountain West Conference the same year. His tenure at Utah also included four Pac-12 South Division titles in 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2021. In 2021, Whittingham became the winningest coach in the University of Utah football program's history.

Whittingham's coaching acumen has been recognized with several prestigious awards. He won the AFCA Coach of the Year and Paul "Bear" Bryant Award in 2008, and the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year in 2019. He was also named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year twice, in 2019 and 2021. In addition to his coaching successes, Whittingham made significant contributions off the field. He took a pay cut during the COVID-19 pandemic to help mitigate financial impacts on the athletics department and, along with his wife, donated $100,000 to the Ty Jordan Memorial Fund.

After 21 seasons, Whittingham stepped down as head coach of Utah in 2025, leaving as the second-longest tenured FBS head coach with one school at the time of his resignation. He was then appointed as the 22nd head football coach at the University of Michigan, commencing from the 2026 season. Whittingham continues to support the 22 Forever Memorial Scholarship, renamed in honor of Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe, demonstrating his continued commitment to the sport and its community.
