Kumar Sanu

Kumar Sanu is an acclaimed Indian playback singer known for his melodious voice and remarkable contribution to Bollywood music. Born in Kolkata, India, Sanu rose to fame in the early 1990s and became one of the most popular and prolific singers in Indian cinema. His career breakthrough came with the 1990 film "Aashiqui," whose soundtrack became a massive hit. Over the years, he has lent his voice to thousands of songs across Hindi and regional films, known for hits like “Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jana Sanam,” “Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai,” and “Chura Ke Dil Mera.”

Sanu’s smooth, expressive singing and mastery over romantic melodies earned him five consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer between 1990 and 1994—a record in the industry. Influenced by Kishore Kumar, he developed a distinctive singing style that blended emotion with technical finesse. Several of his tracks are included in the BBC's "Top 40 Bollywood Soundtracks of all time."

Beyond Bollywood, he has recorded in multiple Indian languages and performed globally, earning a loyal fan base across generations. Sanu was honored with the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian awards, in 2009.
