Kiran V. Patel

Dr. Kiran V. Patel is an interventional pain medicine physician based in New York City, recognized for her work in neuromodulation. Board certified in both pain medicine and anesthesiology, Patel has developed a strong academic and clinical background. She earned her medical degree from Rutgers University, completed an internship in internal medicine at Yale University, finished her anesthesiology residency and interventional pain medicine fellowship at Columbia University, and studied medical acupuncture at Harvard University. Patel also holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in biomedical and medical engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Patel serves as the director of pain medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and is the founder and CEO of the NYC Neuromodulation Center of Excellence. She is an assistant clinical professor at the Hofstra-Northwell School of Medicine and program director for Hofstra-Northwell's ACGME Pain Medicine Fellowship, where she oversees the pain medicine rotation for anesthesiology residents and medical students. Patel is known for her expertise in neuromodulation, including spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, and restorative neurostimulation. She specializes in treating back and neck pain resulting from arthritis, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, and pain following spine surgery.

Patel is a researcher in interventional pain management and neuromodulation. She is co-principal investigator of the RESTORE trial, serves as deputy editor of "Pain Practice," and is a section editor of the sixth edition of "Bonica's Management of Pain." Her work has been published in "Neuromodulation," "Pain Practice," and other peer-reviewed journals. Patel has been appointed to national advisory committees for her contributions to pain management, particularly in addressing complex pain syndromes.

Patel is active in leadership and advocacy within pain medicine and neuromodulation. She serves as treasurer of the North American Neuromodulation Society and is a member of its board of directors. Patel is a founding member of Women Innovators in Pain Medicine and Women in Neuromodulation, and serves as vice president of Women Innovators in Pain Medicine. She is also a director at large for the International Neuromodulation Society and trains physicians in pain procedures and neuromodulation nationally and internationally. Patel has practiced medicine in India and Africa and has organized initiatives to address the undertreatment of pain medicine and anesthesia in those regions.

Patel is a public voice on the future of pain care, having participated as a panelist at SXSW for a session titled "Quantifying the Unquantifiable: Changing How We Measure Pain," which explored chronic pain and the role of connected care in improving communication and assessment. The panel discussed how advancements in connected care systems and artificial intelligence are transforming pain assessment and management. Patel's practice philosophy integrates medical innovation, evidence-based medicine, and patient-centered care to address individual goals in interventional pain medicine.
