Kiran Chetry

Kiran Chetry is a Nepalese-American broadcast journalist whose two-decade career in television news spans local markets and national cable news. Born in Nepal to a Nepali father and an American mother who served as a Peace Corps volunteer, Chetry immigrated to the United States as an infant and grew up in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism from the University of Maryland, graduating with honors.

Chetry began her career in local television, working as a morning anchor and reporter for KXTV in Sacramento, California, and as the main anchor and health reporter for WICU-TV in Erie, Pennsylvania. At WICU-TV, she received the Best Enterprise Reporting award from the Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association for her series "Young and Hooked," which examined teen smoking.

Chetry joined Fox News Channel as a general reporter, serving as a rotating anchor for "Fox News Live" and "Fox & Friends First," before becoming a regular co-host on "Fox & Friends Weekend." She later joined CNN as an anchor and correspondent, co-hosting "American Morning" and anchoring "Anderson Cooper 360." As co-anchor of "American Morning," Chetry reported on major breaking news events, including the Virginia Tech Massacre.

During her tenure at CNN, Chetry conducted interviews with world leaders, politicians, and cultural figures, including George Clooney, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama. She worked alongside Anderson Cooper, Errol Barnett, and Paula Zahn, and co-anchored late-night telecasts for CNN International.

Beyond anchoring, Chetry has contributed to media, community leadership, and public advocacy. She has served as Editor-in-Chief for The Nepalese-American Magazine and as a board member of SarisToSuits. Chetry has also served as president and chapter leader for Room to Read Westchester NY, promoting literacy and gender equality in education. As a public speaker, she delivers keynotes and moderates sessions on journalism, women's leadership, and immigrant success, focusing on resilience in high-pressure environments, the importance of diverse voices in newsrooms, and strategies for overcoming cultural barriers in professional advancement.
